Artist Statement

My work is a joyful experiment. I view life in terms of balancing dichotomies. After recognizing the extremes, I think it's the struggle to achieve moderation or balance that gives a work vitality.

I try not to make conscious decisions while I'm working. If I feel lost, it usually means I'm thinking too much and/or I'm holding the piece too preciously. And then I need to be destructive so it can continue to grow through layering and reworking.

I am very much drawn to color and texture, collecting images and found materials that I know will find a place in my work in years to come. (It’s the closest I come to hoarding.)
